You Are Spoiling Us, Mr Ambassador!
So goes the wonderful ad from Ferrero Rocher.
Where There’s A Will…
Over the last year or so, you will have seen our photography feature a dashing young man called Will Goodge. We originally cast Will as our model because he was so much more than that. His story was compelling, emotive and genuine. Read on for Will's story, but first things first; we’re pleased to announce that, from today, Will is our very first Derek Rose Brand Ambassador.
When we first saw Will’s model card we saw a fit, healthy young model who would no doubt look good in our clothing. But when we interviewed Will we found out that there was so much more to him.
Having been a good sportsman in his youth, Will started off with a semi-professional rugby career with Ampthill RFC, now a Championship team. Modelling followed and life was good. Then everything changed. Will’s mum, Amanda, passed away from cancer and the sense of grief and loss was both troubling and confusing for Will.
When Will told us all this during our interview he was both emotionally raw and inspiring. He explained that he had decided to run the length of the UK, from John O’Groats to Land’s End (‘JOGLE’), in order to raise money for charity in his mum’s name. He was also hoping the journey would help him cope with his grief and find himself.
Having got to know Will while working on our photoshoot we soon realised that we had shared values around the importance of free time in one’s life. Will connected with our messaging that time spent alone, with family or friends are the most valuable experiences in life. When we spoke about how to make the most of these moments Will was very knowledgeable about the significance of what we refer to as REM – Rest, Eat and Move. With so much in common, it made sense to see how we could help Will on his journey.
…There’s a Way
As Will planned his JOGLE run he reached out to us to see if we could help him fund the run and with resting up between running with some Derek Rose leisure and loungewear. For us, it was a no-brainer. The chance to help such a lovely young man undertake such a wonderful challenge was an honour. But we found we could do more for Will’s run. With the help and initiative of our creative-in-residence, Phil Griffin, we planned to film Will’s run. The Phil-Will combo turned out to be a remarkable success and the film, aptly named ‘An Act of Will’, will be released shortly on our blog. Watch this space!
